Wilson (1) research notes

This page should be read alongside the main WILSON 1 line page

I owe much of my information about this line to a WILSON family tree compiled by James Gorton Brooker (99 Wilson of Graythwaite). I have corroboration for the later events from Quaker vital registers.

8. Rebecca (1707-1768)

I haven't yet verified that this Rebecca was the same one who married my ancestor Jonathan WILLIAMSON and was mother to his children. On his research notes page here I note that it is well-attested that his wife was called Rebecca but discuss the evidence I still need to find (principally a marriage record, which I fear will not be a super-informative Quaker one but C of E instead - perhaps then I might find something in a Quaker minute book) that she was, as Brooker has it, Rebecca WILSON, daughter of John and Ann WILSON of Greythwaite. If I get partial information on that, I should note that there are three Rebecca WILSONs of about the right age in the online RG6 database:
Rebecca the Daughter of Isaac Wilson of Eaglesfield and Rebecca his wife 15 12 1701 - I suspect this matches a burial Rebecca Wilson of Eaglesfield 16 7 1727. 26 would be the right age to be an unmarried adult which could explain why this is unusual among female burials in being described as neither wife nor daughter of anyone. Rebecca the Daughter of John Wilson of Graythw'e and Anne his Wife 9 4 1707 Rebecca the Daughter of Peter Wilson of Graysothen and Rebecca his wife 30 8 1715 - there's a Rebecca Wilson of Graysouthen buried 9 9 1745 but she is described as Wid'w so I think she is most likely the mother in this birth.

Brooker thinks that the Rebecca he marries to Jonathan WILLIAMSON is the 1707 birth. He thinks that John and Peter WILSON mentioned as fathers in these births are brothers, and agrees that the 1745 burial is Peter's widow.

Rebecca's 1768 burial as the wife of Jonathan Williamson is in Quaker registers, confirming Brooker's date.

9. John (1667-1746) and Ann (1673-1743) of Greythwaite

Assuming that Rebecca my ancestor is the one born 1707 (see above), then the birth record gives her parents as John and Anne of Graythwaite, Quakers.

I haven't yet investigated WILSONs in the Quaker registers beyond Rebecca's birth, so all of this is from secondary sources. Mainly Brooker, also from Angus Winchester (ed) The diary of Isaac Fletcher of Underwood, Cumberland.

Brooker gives the dates and parentage of John and Ann, and their marriage, and their nine children - births and some deaths, spouses and children in turn. Winchester (which I haven't so far written any of onto the Wilson line page) confirms all these details and more, giving biographical paragraphs about John and their four sons.

10. Christopher (d1692) and Jane (1637-1725) of Greysouthen

Brooker gives Christopher's date of death and his residence. He gives Jane's dates and parents, and Christopher and Jane's marriage. He gives also their 5 children with dates of birth, and in most cases marriages and deaths.

There is corroboration in Winchester of Christopher's and Jane's details, and the names of their two sons. There is also a quote about Christopher's character.
