Allonby

Allonby is a seaside village, once a market town, bathing resort and fishing port, on the west coast of Cumberland. My Williamson ancestors lived there for several generations, and married into the Beeby family.

A 1901 description of Allonby from Steve Bulman's indispensible Images of Cumbria website. The JJ and W Williamson mentioned among the pincipal landowners are almost certainly relatives and I think W is William (1840-1929), eldest son of my ancestor Thomas.

An older 1847 description of Bromfield, Allonby's historical parent parish from the same website.

The Visit Cumbria guide to Allonby with lots of pictures, including the Quaker meeting house where my ancestors worshipped.

Short article on Wikipedia.

Historical description with pictures from the Holme St Cuthbert History Group. The first paragraph mentions the Beeby family, my ancestors.

Some material from the parish register. I don't think my ancestors appear, since they were Quakers.
