Watkinson research notes

3. Alice (b 1888 - living 1966) who married James RIGBY

Have certificates etc. Have her in the 1891 and 1901 censuses. Look for 1911.

Find out when she died - ask family.

4. James (b 1863 - living 1940) and Alice (b abt 1867 - living 1901) of Black Rod and Skelmersdale

Have daughter Alice's birth cert to ensure I have the right parents, and censuses 1881, 1891 and 1901 for addresses, occupations, birth places. The 1915 point is daughter Alice's marriage, and the 1940 is a family photo.

Find birth of eldest daughter Isabella to place it in relation to the marriage and maybe get an immediate post-marriage address and occupation. Check out Grimshaw Lane, Upholland to see what that was like? 1911 census. Deaths.

5. James (b abt 1832 - living 1881) and Alice (b abt 1828 - living 1881) of Tarleton

Have his marriage cert to Alice, giving his police occupation and Gorton residence. Have them in 1861 and 1881 censuses, giving occupations and addresses, and the birth information for most of their sons. Have birth cert for son James which ties them in as parents, and gives another address and occupation point.

Need the 1871 census, and a better look at 1881. Keep looking for them in later censuses. And James in 1851. Look up the addresses. Find their deaths. See if there's a record of his police service.

Find birth of first son Thomas - that may contribute to understanding the marriage and therefore the HARRISON connection.

6. Isabella (b abt 1808 - living 1881) of Tarleton

Evidence for Isabella's birth, marriage and residence, and for her having her son James, is the 1861 census - this lists her as Isabella CROFT and lists James as son-in-law of the head of the household (her husband William), so I infer that James is Isabella's son. I need a birth record for James to confirm that Isabella is his mother and see what, if anything, it says about a father. Without that, there's always the possibility that he's a stepson of William CROFT by a previous wife.
Apparently this family is still there in 1881 - look that up, also 1871.

Evidence for her having a son Henry is that Henry appears on the 1881 census with James, as his brother. I need to have a proper look at that census entry as my notes about it are a bit confused. In particular, see if there's any family of Henry listed after him.

I also should try at some stage to track down that Henry birth, the 1851 census (and others) and a marriage to Wiliam CROFT - otherwise Isabella's life story is desperately incomplete. Also try to find or rule out a marriage to Thomas HARRISON.

If I become confident about her being James's mother, and of her maiden name, I should look for her birth - try the IGI/Tarleton parish records.
