Further details

5. Henry (b abt 1816, alive 1881) and Ann (b abt 1815, alive 1881) of Hunslet and Templenewsam, near Leeds

Henry WILSON was born about 1816 in Hunslet, near Leeds in Yorkshire. He had a wife called Ann (about his age, from Snaith further east in the same county) and they probably married in the early 1840s. In their early married life Henry was a butcher and they lived in Hunslet, having seven known children:
Mary Jane, about 1844
Elizabeth Ann, about 1846
Sarah, about 1849
Eliza A, about 1851
Catherine, about 1853
Clara, about 1855
Henry W, about 1858

In 1851 they lived on Low Road, Hunslet, with a 15-yo maidservant, and in 1861 on Church Street, with no servant. There were the two teenage daughters, but apparently both were still at school so they must have been fairly busy if they were also helping look after the house.

In 1867 Elizabeth got married and Henry is described on that certificate as a farmer. Sure enough at the next census I have, in 1881, he’s a farmer of 200 acres, employing 3 men. They live at Temple House, Templenewsam (a rural area on the eastern fringes of Leeds, not far from Hunslet – I haven’t identified Temple House on the modern map; I presume it isn’t the stately home Temple Newsam House, but I think it may have been a nearby farmhouse, let out with land to tenants including in one internet hit a John Paget or Patchett). Henry and Ann are with Eliza, Clara, Henry (occupied as a farmer and carrier, presumably for his dad), and a live-in domestic servant and a live-in farmhand.

Further research: should be able to get 1871 census by address – try Temple House first. Later censuses to see if Henry and Ann are still alive.

4. Elizabeth Ann (born about 1846, died 1905)

Elizabeth Ann WILSON married Edwin HALLAS in 1867, in the parish church at Whitkirk in Yorkshire. Several members of the WILSON family witnessed the marriage – Sarah, Mary Jane and Edward. She gave her address as Temple House, presumably of that parish – I guess that may have been her family home. See his page for details of their married life.

Further research: check out that Temple House address in censuses (1861 and 71 first). And/or the names we have.
