So far, I owe everything I know about this line to John M Wilson, a fellow descendant of the line and genealogist. I don't think he has a website I can point to, so I'll put the information up here.
Nicholas NICHOLSON was born about 1620, in Eskdale, Cumberland. There are two Eskdales in Cumberland but it seems that the one intended is the one in the south-west of the county. I think John M Wilson implies that Nicholas lived at Paddockwray.
His son Nicholas NICHOLSON was baptised in 1643 and buried in 1715, both in Eskdale.
His son was John NICHOLSON, baptised in 1683 in Eskdale. He married twice - in 1710 in Eskdale to Maria WILKINS, and then in 1717 in nearby Gosforth to Mary SHERWEN.
The daughter of John and Mary was Sarah NICHOLSON, baptised in Gosforth in 1722 and married Isaac CALDBECK. She died in 1800.
