Harrison

Generations and details:

6. Thomas HARRISON (lived early 19th century)

Thomas was a farmer and was the father of James WATKINSON, born about 1832 in Tarleton, Lancashire.

Research notes:

Basically the only piece of evidence here is the 1857 marriage certificate of James WATKINSON to Alice ROBINSON - it lists Thomas' name and occupation under groom's father.

Find out more about Thomas Harrison, if it appears to be the same one. For example, searching the genealogist 1851 census for Thomas Harrison Tarleton turned up six matches, of which one was old enough to be a father in 1832. He's 43, a farmer of 100 acres, living at Cookson's, Holmes, with his large family (oldest child 16 so not born in 1832). It is at HO107/2197/~F78.

Seek to confirm or rule out whether he ever married James' mother - she appears by 1861 as married to someone else. Presumably the marriage would have taken place between 1832 and 1857 and been between Thomas HARRISON and Isabella WATKINSON. And it would mean that her subsequent marriage (if any in fact) would be bigamous - therefore perhaps still under her maiden name rather than CROFT-HARRISON?

Note John and Jane HARRISON witnessed James WATKINSON's marriage - were these also children of Thomas? Look back at that census record of him and his family. Or they could be siblings or whatever.
