Further details

5. David (born about 1812, living 1851 and probably 1867) and Mary (born about 1812, living 1851) of Leeds.

David HALLAS was born about 1812 in Leeds. Sometime around the 1830s he married Mary (possibly Marriages Mar 1839, HALLAS David, Dewsbury 22 13 – to either Mary Fisher or Sarah Bailey), and they had four children:
William H about 1839
Elizabeth about 1841
Edwin about 1845 (try Births Sep 1844 Hallas Edwin, Leeds 23 356 – would give MMN)
Mary E about 1849

In 1851 they were living in Hunslet, Leeds, on Goodman Street. David was working as a stuff dyer. In 1867 he was described as a gentleman.

Further research: check 1861 census for sure.

4. Edwin (about 1845 to 1917) and Elizabeth Ann (about 1846 to 1905) of the Leeds area.

Edwin was born about 1845, and Elizabeth Ann WILSON was about a year younger. They married in 1867 in Whitkirk, near Leeds. Their first two children were born in Leeds, but then they were in Rothwell, near Hunslet – though at different addresses – they seem to have moved every few years. The children were:
Clara L about 1867
Elizabeth A about 1869
Walter 1872
Mary E about 1874
Harry W about 1876
Edith Jane 1878

Edwin had a career in finance. As a young man in 1867 he was a book-keeper; in 1878 a cashier; in 1881 loan finance agent; in 1891 a Loan Society Secretary; in 1901 a bill broker; in 1913 an estate agent.

During the 1880s they moved to Hunslet, and then in the 1890s to Roundhay Road, across Leeds.

Elizabeth died in 1905 and Edwin in 1917. Both are buried at St John’s church, Roundhay.

3. Edith Jane (1878-1936).

Edith married Frederick William ATKINSON in 1913 in St Aidan’s parish church, Leeds. See his page for details of their married life. She died 2 October 1936 and is buried with her parents.

Further research: from marriage cert work back to censuses (1881, 91, 1901, 11).
