Carruthers

This is a short line so far; I have two generations. I pick up the family in Dumfriesshire in Scotland, where the surname is common; in fact it is derived from a local place name. Since the surname is of quite a specific derivation and is part of the Scottish clan system, I thought it would be worth posting some links to general information at these sites:

A Carruthers researcher's surname history (drawing considerably from legend/ancient history)

The generations of my own Carruthers line are:

Walter CARRUTHERS is known principally from the records of his children. He may have been married to their mother, Mary IRVING (or IRVINE)

Their daughter Janet Bell CARRUTHERS was christened on 6 April 1851 at St Mungo, Dumfriesshire. She married John PATTINSON on 5 December 1874 at Torpenhow in Cumberland. She was also known as Jane.
