Allason (1)

This line updated 27 December 2009.

I have three generations of this line. The family, like several other lines in my ancestry, were part of the Quaker (Society of Friends) community around the meeting house at Pardshaw Hall in Cumberland. (more information about Pardshaw Hall and its Quakers here).

The generations of my Allason (1) line are:

8. John (d 1746) and Esther (d 1767) ALLASON of Mossergate, Cumberland. More.

7a. William (1734-1801) and Mary (d. 1768) ALLASON of Mossergate. Mary had been a ROBINSON of Beech Hill. More.
7b. William (1734-1801) and Mary (1743-1821) ALLASON of Mossergate. Mary had been a ROBINSON of Pardshaw. More.

6. Mary (1780-1839) ALLASON who married Joseph ROBINSON. More.

Further details

8. John (d 1746) and Esther (d 1767) of Mossergate

John ALLASON of Mossergate (in the parish of Brigham in Cumberland, near to Pardshaw) married Esther in 1733. Esther may have been Esther WOOD of Graithwaite. They had four children:
William 1734 (see below)
Sarah 1736
Thomas 1739 who died aged 4
Ann 1742 (who survived her parents, dying in 1782)
John died in or before 1746 and his son William inherited property at Mosser Gate. Esther died in 1767.

7a. William (1734-1801) and Mary (d. 1768) of Mossergate

William ALLASON inherited property at Mossergate aged about 11 but he did not marry until his 30s. His first wife was Mary, daughter of John ROBINSON of Beech Hill (a farm or hamlet near to Mossergate); they married in 1767 (the year William's mother would die). The following year they had a son, John, but in the same year, Mary died. It was more than ten years before William married again, during which time (in 1772) he bought more land at Mossergate for £1000 - which I believe was a lot of money in those days, perhaps especially in rural Cumberland. William was described as a yeoman.

7b. William (1734-1801) and Mary (1743-1821) of Mossergate

William married for the second time in 1779, aged 44 with his son John aged about 11. There's potential confusion here because his second wife was also a local woman called Mary ROBINSON. This one was daughter of John ROBINSON, also a yeoman of Pardshaw; she was 36 when they married on 29 April at Pardshaw Hall.
William had four more children with his second wife Mary:
Mary 1780 - see below
William 1781
Henry 1783 - who grew up and married one Sarah DREWRY
Susannah 1786
William added further to the family property by buying neighbouring bits of land. He died 11 September 1801 aged 66.

6. Mary (1780-1839) who married Joseph ROBINSON.

Mary married Joseph ROBINSON, 29 May 1806, Pardshaw Hall - see his line page for her later life.
